In 1946, Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K. (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation, predecessor of Sony Group Corporation)started as a small business with a capital of only 190,000 yen and around 20 employees.
Founder Masaru Ibuka said the purpose of establishing the company was to “create a good company which emphasizes the spirit of freedom and openness that, through technology, will contribute to Japanese culture. Reflecting Sony’s challenging spirit of “doing things that have never been done before”, the company continues to release many “first in Japan” and “first in the world” products.
